Synopsis
While delivering a student’s dry cleaning, Geum Jan Di saves the life of a student at the most prestigious school in Korea. Her actions soon become public and exposes the bullying within the school. To silence the public’s attention, Jan Di is offered a swimming scholarship to Shinhwa which she declines but her family forces her to attend.
During her first day at Shinhwa, Jan Di learns of the famous F4 and of the other students' adoration and fixation with the boys in the group. Gu Jun Pyo, Yoon Ji Hoo, So Yi Jung, and Song Woo Bin are the richest and most powerful kids within Shinhwa and Korea. Subsequently, they use their power to terrorize weaker students or those they do not like. Jan Di, instead of being impressed, becomes enraged and fantasizes about confronting Gu Jun Pyo, the leader and initiator of many of the bullying acts. She gains courage to confront him when a friend accidentally spills ice cream on his shoes and he demands the girl lick it off. Jan Di defends her friend and attempts to reason with Jun Pyo’s tyrannical demand. When he refuses to relent, Jan Di turns violent, knocking Jun Pyo to the ground. Engaged by this, Gu Jun Pyo declares war on Jan Di and encourages the other students to bully her. Jan Di, however, is resistant, refusing to apologize to Gu Jun Pyo, and stands by her decision to fight him.
Ironically, Gu Jun Pyo, having never been stood up to, begins to develop feelings for her. He tries unsuccessfully to woo her as she slowly begins to spend more time with Jun Pyo and his friends. Jan Di teaches Jun Pyo that money cannot buy everything and in order to have real friends, he himself must be real or use his heart, but Gu Jun Pyo still does not understand why someone like Jan Di should dislike him. As the story progresses, Jun Pyo falls deeper in love with Jan Di and she learns how to open herself to his love as well.
As love begins to blossom, Jun Pyo’s mother discovers them and deems it unsuitable. She does everything in her power to keep the two apart, even arranging a marriage for Jun Pyo. Other factors keep arising as another member of the group falls in love with Jan Di and in a twist of fate, Jun Pyo loses his memory. In the end, however, Gu Jun Pyo and Jan Di learn that love conquers all and that they are truly soul mates.

Goo Jun Pyo and Geum Jan Di
Geum Jan Di initially hates Goo Jun Pyo and his two friends, So Yi Jeong and Song Woo Bin. She is the only one who is strong enough to stand up against Jun Pyo after he attempts to humiliate Oh Min Ji, Jan Di's only friend in school. Jun Pyo then places a "Red Card" in Jan Di's locker, which indicates that she is a victim of the F4. After continuous bullying, Jan Di still would not bow down to him. While all this is going on, Jun Pyo starts developing feelings for Jan Di. He makes a rash and illogical conclusion that the only reason why Jan Di is so determined to defy him is because Jan Di likes him and is just too embarrassed to admit it. In actuality, however, Jan Di likes Ji Hoo because he was the only one to help her while she was being bullied. Jun Pyo tries numerous times to force Jan Di to like him. But after being constantly rejected and once catching Jan Di and Ji Hoo kissing, Jun Pyo was hurt and never wanted to talk to her again. He also declared that Ji Hoo was no longer part of F4 and that the two of them (Jan Di and Ji Hoo) are to be expelled. Jun Pyo's older sister then comes in and makes Jun Pyo and Ji Hoo compete against each other in three sports events. The one with two out of three wins is the winner and will get what he wants. Jun Pyo and Ji Hoo each won one event but it was unclear as to who the winner was because during the third event, which was swimming, Jun Pyo decided that winning the event is unimportant and therefore, switched off the lights just as the last swimmers were neck in neck and finishing the race. By doing this, Jun Pyo leaves Jan Di alone and this allowed Jan Di to go on an actual date with Ji Hoo. However, during the date, she is constantly reminded of the past memories she has with Jun Pyo. At one point during the date, Ji Hoo brings her to his home and attempts to kiss her but she turns away and changes the subject instead. Through her reflex reaction, both Ji Hoo and herself realize that she has feelings for Jun Pyo and no longer likes Ji Hoo. After having this realization, Ji Hoo sets up Jun Pyo so that he would admit to Ji Hoo that he likes Jan Di. F4 then pranks Jan Di into confessing to Jun Pyo and the two start dating. As their relationship continue to bloom, Jun Pyo's mother becomes an obstacle for the couple. She does everything possible to prevent Jun Pyo from being with Jan Di, because she does not want her son, the heir of Shinhwa, dating a commoner.
Yoon Ji Hoo and Geum Jan Di
In the beginning, Jan Di develops a crush on Ji Hoo. The first time Ji Hoo helps her was when she was being bullied and he was the only one to do so. Jan Di persuades Ji Hoo to go to France to follow Seo Hyun, his love interest, despite her regretting to do so. When Ji Hoo returns from France he discovers that he has feelings for Jan Di. Ji Hoo attempts to confess numerous times, one of which Jan Di falls asleep within, the second time she does not hear him and lastly he gives his mother's ring to her. Yet, Jan Di refuses because no matter how hard he tries she foolishly cannot forget Jun Pyo. Upon realizing that he cannot have Jan Di, he stays by her side to protect her whenever she needs his help.
Yi Jeong and Ga Eul
Ga Eul is Jan Di's best friend since kindergarten. Ga Eul initially thinks of Yi Jeong as a guy with "handsome face" who only plays with girls. Later she starts developing romantic feelings for Yi Jeong after he helps her get over her boyfriend who just played with her. She realizes that inside Yi Jeong is a pure and lovely person. In order to get Jan Di and Jun Pyo together, Yi Jeong takes Ga Eul on a fake date. On Valentine's Day, she even makes a present for him to express her gratitude. At first, it's obvious that Yi Jeong only thinks of her as a good friend when he says he doesn't like girls that are "nice, idiotic, or involved with his friend". Yet, since Ga Eul helps him through his self-destruction, Yi Jeong finds out that Ga Eul, not Eun Jae (his prior love-interest) has always been by his side. He eventually shows some feelings towards her, especially when he promises to visit her first when he returns from Sweden.

Jae Kyung is Jun Pyo's supposed-to-be wife by means of an engagement. Both their parents planned for their fixed marriage for the merger of the two huge companies in Korea (Shinhwa Group and JK Group). As the series goes on, Jae Kyung falls in love with Jun Pyo while Jan Di being hurt always and realizes that she really loves Jun Pyo. On their supposed-to-be marriage, Jae Kyung gave up her love for Jun Pyo because she knows that Jun Pyo's life would be miserable without Jan Di.

Lee Min Ho: Goo Jun Pyo(구 준표) is the hot-headed leader of F4. He is the heir of the Shinhwa Group and after his father [supposedly] passes away, he inherits the company and is forced to take charge of it while being guided by his mother. While still in high school, he meets Jan Di and is stunned by her act of defiance. He then makes her a target to be bullied by the entire school but as time passes, he begins to fall in love with her. He then enters into a relationship with her even though it is highly-opposed by his mother. Jun Pyo is afraid of swimming because he was kidnapped by his own caretaker when he was eight years old and while being in a car chase, the caretaker crashed the car, in which Jun Pyo was also inside, and they plunged into a lake. He has never learned to swim. But after falling in love with Jan Di and failing several times to be the one to save her from drowning, he decides that he would rather drown than see someone else save her and overcame his fear. He took up swimming lessons and eventually learned how to swim.
Kim Hyun-Joong: Yoon Ji Hoo(윤 지후) is a calm and soft-spoken boy who likes to play the violin, piano, and guitar and conduct an orchestra. Seo Hyeon is Ji Hoo's first love, after she helped him overcome trauma after the death of his parents when he was little. He attempts to fight for Seo Hyeon's love by following her to France. But then he realizes his love for Seo Hyeon was just worshipping her.When he comes back, he realized that he had fallen for Jan Di. However, Jun Pyo has already announced his love of Jan Di. Ji Hoo decides not to betray his friend by trying to fight for Jan Di. He is a grandson of Korea's former president.
Kim Sang Bum: So Yi Jeong(소 이정) is F4's perennial playboy. Handsome and gifted with a killer smile, Yi Jeong also has a habit for making girls fall for him. Even Jan Di's friend, Ga Eul eventually falls for him. He is from a family of well-known artists and is a reputable potter himself, making his first debut at the age of sixteen. His family owns a famous art gallery that exhibits national treasures. He has an older brother, So Il Hyun, and has a history with Cha Eun Jae, his childhood friend and fellow potter. He is known for his "5-second kill" which is a technique that leads girls to fall in love with him and kiss him in 5 seconds. According to Ji Hoo, he is "F4's Casanova". Yi Jeong promised Ga Eul that she will be the first one that he will visit from Sweden.
Kim Joon: Song Woo Bin(송 우빈) is from a family that runs a prominent construction business and they own real estate all over the country. He is a very good friend of Yi Jung and is a very kind-hearted person even though he is known as a playboy himself. Apart from his good-looks, Woo Bin constantly speaks American slang and uses it to charm the ladies. He is often seen betting with Yi Jeong over various matters. Ji Hoo calls him "F4's Don Juan".
Kim So Eun: Chu Ga Eul(추 가을) is Jan Di's best friend since kindergarten. She works with Jan Di in a Porridge Shop, serving as a waitress. She meets Yi Jeong of F4 but is, at first, not attracted to him. She eventually develops feelings for Yi Jeong as she gets to know him better and even agreed to go on a fake date with him in order to bring Jan Di and Jun Pyo back together. At the end, Ga Eul became a pre-school teacher.

Lee Shi Yeong: Oh Min Ji(오민지) is Jan Di's first friend when she transfers to Shinhwa High. She is friendly but her dark side is revealed when it was announced that Jun Pyo is dating Jan Di. Because of her one-sided love and attraction towards Jun Pyo, she frames Jan Di so that Jun Pyo would leave her. It was also revealed that she has had plastic surgery performed on her face every two years in Germany some time between post-kindergarden to pre-high school in order to make Jun Pyo like her after her transformation. She later goes to America to start a new life.
Han Chae Young: Min Seo Hyun(민서현) is Ji Hoo's first love and a famous Korean model. She comes back to Korea for a short vacation and become friends with Jan Di. She is kind and caring to Jan Di for she believes that whenever Ji Hoo sees Jan Di, a smile appears on him. She leaves Korea and Ji Hoo later discovers that she is engaged to an European prince.
Jung Eui Chul: Lee Min Ha(이민하)/Lee Ji Ha(이지하)/HaJe(하제) are two characters played by the same actor. In his first role, he plays a Shinhwa student, Lee Min Ha, who is the victim of school-bullying under the command of F4. In Episode 11, he appears as HaJe, a famous yet mysterious model who is secretly a Shinhwa student named Lee Ji Ha. As the younger brother of Lee Min Ha, HaJe/Ji Ha befriends Jan Di in order to seek revenge on Jun Pyo for bullying his older brother.
Lee Min Jung: Ha Jae Kyung(하재경) is Jun Pyo's fiancee in the latter part of the series. She makes her first appearance in Episode 13 as a lady in Macau who saves Jan Di from a thief. She takes Jan Di on a short tour in Macau so that Jan Di doesn't experience cultural shock. She meets Jun Pyo in a fashion store and fights with him over a pair of elegant doll shoes; Jun Pyo's motive in buying the shoes was to give them to Jan Di. On Jun Pyo's birthday, she was introduced as his fiancee. As time passes by, she falls in love with Jun Pyo and unknowingly hurts Jan Di. She befriends Jan Di and Ga Eul because she has never had a friend since she was a child. During the wedding, she gives up Jun Pyo because she realizes that Jun Pyo and Jan Di still love each other very much.
Kim Min Ji: Jang Yoo Mi(장유미) is a girl who was lame due to a skiing accident and was hospitalized in the same hospital where Jun Pyo was confined. There she meets Jun Pyo and begins to like him. She takes advantage of his loss of memory of Jan Di in attempt to make him fall for her.

Differences from Manga version
In the manga, the characters are in high school in season 1, but F4 (minus Domyoji) attend Eitoku University in season 2. In the Korean version, the characters are also in high school, but the F4 move on to Shinhwa University from episode 13 onwards. Shinhwa High School and Shinhwa University are located within the same campus..
The relationship between the two characters: Sojiroh and Yuki (also known as Yi Jung and Ga Eul in the Korean version) is merely hinted. But in the Korean version, the relationship between these two gradually develops throughout the series, having their own significant plotline instead of acting as a subplot.
Ji Hoo has a more significant role in Jan Di's life than the Taiwanese and Japanese versions, more strongly depicted as a romantic companion for most of the drama.
Woobin's family does not appear in this version, nor is he only interested in older women.
How Jan Di came to attend the same school as F4 is changed completely. In the manga and Japanese version, Makino had admired Shizuka Todo being a student there, and worked hard to be accepted. Kim So Eun: Chu Ga Eul(추 가을) is Jan Di's best friend since kindergarten. She works with Jan Di in a Porridge Shop, serving as a waitress. She meets Yi Jeong of F4 but is, at first, not attracted to him. She eventually develops feelings for Yi Jeong as she gets to know him better and even agreed to go on a fake date with him in order to bring Jan Di and Jun Pyo back together. At the end, Ga Eul became a pre-school teacher.

Lee Shi Yeong: Oh Min Ji(오민지) is Jan Di's first friend when she transfers to Shinhwa High. She is friendly but her dark side is revealed when it was announced that Jun Pyo is dating Jan Di. Because of her one-sided love and attraction towards Jun Pyo, she frames Jan Di so that Jun Pyo would leave her. It was also revealed that she has had plastic surgery performed on her face every two years in Germany some time between post-kindergarden to pre-high school in order to make Jun Pyo like her after her transformation. She later goes to America to start a new life.
Han Chae Young: Min Seo Hyun(민서현) is Ji Hoo's first love and a famous Korean model. She comes back to Korea for a short vacation and become friends with Jan Di. She is kind and caring to Jan Di for she believes that whenever Ji Hoo sees Jan Di, a smile appears on him. She leaves Korea and Ji Hoo later discovers that she is engaged to an European prince.
Jung Eui Chul: Lee Min Ha(이민하)/Lee Ji Ha(이지하)/HaJe(하제) are two characters played by the same actor. In his first role, he plays a Shinhwa student, Lee Min Ha, who is the victim of school-bullying under the command of F4. In Episode 11, he appears as HaJe, a famous yet mysterious model who is secretly a Shinhwa student named Lee Ji Ha. As the younger brother of Lee Min Ha, HaJe/Ji Ha befriends Jan Di in order to seek revenge on Jun Pyo for bullying his older brother.
Lee Min Jung: Ha Jae Kyung(하재경) is Jun Pyo's fiancee in the latter part of the series. She makes her first appearance in Episode 13 as a lady in Macau who saves Jan Di from a thief. She takes Jan Di on a short tour in Macau so that Jan Di doesn't experience cultural shock. She meets Jun Pyo in a fashion store and fights with him over a pair of elegant doll shoes; Jun Pyo's motive in buying the shoes was to give them to Jan Di. On Jun Pyo's birthday, she was introduced as his fiancee. As time passes by, she falls in love with Jun Pyo and unknowingly hurts Jan Di. She befriends Jan Di and Ga Eul because she has never had a friend since she was a child. During the wedding, she gives up Jun Pyo because she realizes that Jun Pyo and Jan Di still love each other very much.
Kim Min Ji: Jang Yoo Mi(장유미) is a girl who was lame due to a skiing accident and was hospitalized in the same hospital where Jun Pyo was confined. There she meets Jun Pyo and begins to like him. She takes advantage of his loss of memory of Jan Di in attempt to make him fall for her.

Differences from Manga version
In the manga, the characters are in high school in season 1, but F4 (minus Domyoji) attend Eitoku University in season 2. In the Korean version, the characters are also in high school, but the F4 move on to Shinhwa University from episode 13 onwards. Shinhwa High School and Shinhwa University are located within the same campus..
The relationship between the two characters: Sojiroh and Yuki (also known as Yi Jung and Ga Eul in the Korean version) is merely hinted. But in the Korean version, the relationship between these two gradually develops throughout the series, having their own significant plotline instead of acting as a subplot.
Ji Hoo has a more significant role in Jan Di's life than the Taiwanese and Japanese versions, more strongly depicted as a romantic companion for most of the drama.
Woobin's family does not appear in this version, nor is he only interested in older women.
How Jan Di came to attend the same school as F4 is changed completely. In the manga and Japanese version, Makino had admired Shizuka Todo being a student there, and worked hard to be accepted. Yet in the Korean version, Jan Di saves a student from committing suicide while delivering laundry (her family owns a dry-cleaning business), and she is given a scholarship to the school. Jan Di was also initially reluctant to attend, but complied because of the school swimming pool, another trait absent from the manga.
